When people picture a 700-foot American flag rising above the Ozarks, they often imagine cameras and crowds. But those who have stood beneath towering monuments elsewhere know the truth: the first reaction is rarely a photo. It's silence.

There's a moment of stillness that happens when something built by human hands manages to point beyond itself — toward sacrifice, toward gratitude, toward home. That's the moment Old Glory Rising is designed to create.

Why Scale Matters

The size of this monument isn't about spectacle for its own sake. A flag this large, visible for miles across the Ozark landscape, becomes something people orient themselves by — literally and spiritually.

It's meant to be the kind of landmark a father points to from the highway and says, "That's ours." Not because anyone owns it, but because everyone does.

A flag that big doesn't just ask to be seen. It asks to be remembered.

A Gathering Place, Not Just a Destination

Old Glory Rising is more than the monument itself. Surrounding it will be a community center and gathering grounds built for the people of Southwest Missouri — a place for reunions, ceremonies, quiet reflection, and everyday life.

We imagine it becoming a home for moments like:

• Veterans gathering to honor comrades and share stories
• Families holding reunions beneath open Ozark skies
• School groups learning what the flag has meant across generations
• Community memorials and Independence Day celebrations
• Quiet, personal visits for prayer or remembrance

This is the difference between a landmark and a living place. We want Old Glory Rising to be both.

What Visitors Will Carry Home

Ask anyone who has stood at the base of a great monument, and they'll rarely describe the engineering. They'll describe how it made them feel — small in the best way, connected to something larger, proud in a way that's hard to put into words.

That's our hope here. Not that visitors leave impressed, but that they leave changed — a little more grateful, a little more rooted, a little more aware of what it cost to build the freedoms we often take for granted.

For many, especially veterans and military families, we believe this place will become sacred ground. A place to bring the names of those who didn't come home. A place to teach children what service really means.

Building It Together

Right now, we're in the early stages of Phase 1, working toward a $2 million goal that will move this project from vision to groundbreaking. The full vision — the monument, the center, the grounds — represents an investment of approximately $51 million, and every step forward depends on everyday Americans choosing to be part of it.

One of the simplest ways to be part of the story is through a commemorative brick, available for $250, which will become a permanent part of the gathering grounds. Our nonprofit status is still being finalized, so at this stage, all pledges are expressions of support rather than tax-deductible donations — but once that status is finalized, tax-deductibility will apply going forward.

This monument will belong to the people who helped raise it — one brick, one gift, one prayer at a time.
